Chess Dessert Bars with Yellow Cake Mix For the Win
This recipe is one that my family requests very often. They love it. It is super easy to make and requires only a few ingredients, so I love the recipes that use the yellow cake mix. The yellow cake mix for this recipe is used in the crust. The yellow cake mix’s versatility is amazing; I always keep one in my pantry for last-minute desserts I want to bake.
These are excellent for parties, showers, and family dinners. They are cut into squares just like a brownie is. They are super easy to eat as finger food. The ingredients are tasty to even picky eaters. Most people love the rich cream cheese and powdered sugar combination that makes these so delicious.
Preparing the Crust For Baking
For the crust, you will need to spray the pan with cooking spray. You will combine the yellow cake mix, melted butter, and one of the eggs. Mix this well. This batter is fairly dense. Once thoroughly mixed, dump the dough into your 9 x13 pan. With your fingers, spread the crust dough evenly on the bottom of the pan.
Mixing the Rich Creamy Top Layer
Now that the crust is pressed and evened out in the pan, it is time to start the top layer. The remaining ingredients will go into this mixture. You now will want to put the powdered sugar, softened cream cheese, and the remaining two eggs into your bowl. This mixture must mix until smooth for at least one to two minutes. It should have a nice smooth texture with no lumps in it.
You will want to pour the cream cheese mixture over the crust layer gradually. It will spread pretty well on its own. You may want to take a spatula and smooth it out to ensure it reaches the corners of the pan.

Ingredients
- 1 box yellow cake mix
- 3 large eggs
- 8 ounces cream cheese softened
- ½ cup butter melted
- 4 cups powdered sugar
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 300 degrees. Spray 9x13 pan with cooking spray.
- Mix cake mix, melted butter, and one egg till it is a soft dough.
- Press the mix into the bottom of the pan.
- Mix powdered sugar, cream cheese, and 2 eggs until smooth. Mix for about one to two minutes.
- Pour on top of the crust.
- Bake at 300° for an hour, until golden brown.
